No-exam life insurance

The carriers' expedited underwriting: who qualifies, how it happens, and alternatives for applicants outside the program.

Many carriers now provide accelerated underwriting: for applicants within set age and amount ranges, they decide using your application, medical records, driving history and similar data in place of a medical exam. Approvals can happen in hours or a day. Your quote tells you whether an exam is needed, possibly needed, or not required.

What it changes

Accelerated doesn't mean no underwriting. Your answers are verified, and policies are contestable for two years if they are issued based on false information. The carrier may request an exam or labs if red flags arise; you decide whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Usually: age below 60, coverage below the carrier's accelerated cap, no major illnesses in your history, and no tobacco in the past twelve months. Some carriers accept recent medical lab results in place of an exam.

If an exam is needed, typically a 20- to 30-minute appointment with a paramedical professional at your Hesperia home or workplace, at no charge. Good health often results in a better rate tier from the exam, making it potentially beneficial rather than burdensome.
